Apple has announced iOS 27 and iPadOS 27, and it has a bunch of interesting features for iPhone and iPad, including the new Siri AI.

iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 Announced with Big Performance Enhancements, Improvements to Liquid Glass, and Siri AI

This year, when it comes to features, Apple is keeping things minimal. In fact, this is exactly the kind of update iPhone and iPad needed for a long time – under-the-hood performance improvements, topped with some Siri AI magic.

Siri AI

The Siri which everyone has been waiting for is finally here. It lives in the Dynamic Island on your iPhone, or the top of the display on your iPad, and you can interact with it naturally.

It can do a bunch of cool things, like any other AI chatbot can, but this is the Siri you know and love, integrated into the system with the ability to tap into your personal information and apps.

There’s even a dedicated Siri app. Siri is now a full-blown chatbot and you can have intelligent conversations with it, and everything stays private, because that’s how Apple works.

Siri lives in the Camera app too, allowing you to point your iPhone to an abject and get information about it. It’s Visual Intelligence, but exactly where it should be.

You can even adjust the pitch, speed, tone, and accent of Siri as well, ensuring that it’s personal to you.

Apple Intelligence Features

There are a bunch of new Apple Intelligence features in iOS 27 and iPadOS 27, but I’m going to talk about my favorite ones, starting with Photos.

Remember the Clean Up feature you almost never use? Well, it’s getting a big upgrade this year and now works with complex scenes for improved cleanups. But that’s not all, you can now use the new Spatial Reframing feature to actually reframe a photo you’ve already taken.

There’s even a new Extend feature in Photos which uses generative AI to expand the area around the photo you’ve already taken.

Image Playground can now generate extremely detailed images, rather than mere cartoons. This means the app is more useful than before, and I personally can’t wait to try it.

Apple Intelligence extends to the Passwords app as well, allowing it to view and ‘fix’ compromised passwords on the fly. But it gets better when you realize that you can finally create Shortcuts using AI.

Improved Performance and Refinements

Apple is making refinements to Liquid Glass in the new update, ensuring everything is more readable. Performance improvements are also there, and Apple is promising 30% faster app launch, 80% faster AirDrop transfers, and more.

Apple is also adding smoother network transitions, which means handoff between Wi-Fi and cellular is smoother than ever, and you won’t feel the ‘disconnect’ when it happens.

Release Date and Beta

iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 beta is available for download right now if you’re a developer. The final version of the update will become available to download for everyone later this year.
