Here is everything new coming to Apple TV later this year with the tvOS 27 update. It’s not much, but definitely worth a read.
tvOS 27 Includes a Handful of New Features, Including Redesigned Podcasts App, and Smoother Animations
Apple took a lot of time talking about Siri AI and Apple Intelligence. It didn’t talk about tvOS 27 at all, even though it touched upon other platforms.
However, there are a couple of new features coming with tvOS 27, and they mostly sound like refinements to what’s already there, such as a faster AirPlay experience when connecting using other Apple devices.
Apple says that there is a redesigned Podcasts app coming with tvOS 27. I really hope it includes the new video feature, something that remains exclusive to iPhone and iPad.
You can also expect smoother app launches and animations across the board. Not sure if this was needed, given we spend more time watching videos on Apple TV, and not animations.
Smart downloads are also coming to Apple TV, and I can only speculate that they are related to Apple TV, Podcasts, and Music.
Another thing worth noting is this: Apple is dropping support for the original Apple TV 4K that was released back in 2017, as well as the first-generation Apple TV HD from 2015.
Given Apple’s silence on tvOS 27, it seems as though Apple wants to give it exclusive airtime with new hardware. If that’s the case, I can’t wait to see what Apple has been working on.
