Apple has just released new beta firmware with build number 8A5308b for AirPods 4 and AirPods Pro 2, and you can download it now.
AirPods 4 and AirPods Pro 2 Receive New Beta Update with Build Number 8A5308b – Available for Download Today
It’s been a while since Apple released any beta update for AirPods. Build 8A293c was released at the end of June, and nothing has been seeded for developers since then.
Today, Apple has released a new update for AirPods 4 and AirPods Pro 2, bringing the build number to 8A5308b. It includes under-the-hood improvements and general bug fixes, nothing else.
The only way to get the latest update is to connect your AirPods to your iPhone, iPad, or Mac, and just leave them in the charging case while being connected to a power source such as USB-C or a Qi wireless charger.
You really can’t force the update at all, and the new beta firmware should install in about half an hour or so.
You can check whether or not the update has been installed by going to Settings > AirPods, scrolling all the way down, and checking the ‘Build’ number here. If it says 8A5308b, then you’re good to go already.
If you want to test out the beta firmware on your AirPods 4 or AirPods Pro 2, you’ll be pleased to learn that there are multiple ways to sign up for it. You can either sign up using your iPhone or iPad, or use your Mac.
Just know that you should have iOS 26, iPadOS 26, or macOS 26 Tahoe beta installed in order to test out the firmware.
The new firmware will be released later this year alongside other software updates from Apple.
The new update brings a bunch of cool new features to AirPods, including the ability to use the AirPods as a camera shutter button, and the ability to pause content automatically if you fall asleep.
