Apple’s first-ever foldable iPhone, the iPhone Duo, is now official. Here are all the features and highlights you need to know.
iPhone Duo Rewrites the iPhone Chapter for Apple with its Stunning New Design, Pro Performance, and Remarkable Displays
The iPhone Duo is Apple’s first-ever foldable, and it is an iPhone at its core. It is marketed as such too, with DNA from iPad also lingering around in certain places, especially the inner display.
It’s hard to talk about all the technologies Apple has put into this product, that’s why you can learn everything about it here. On this blog, you’ll only find the key highlights on what makes this new iPhone so great.
Two Displays
There’s a 5.4-inch outer display with a FaceTime camera at the top right corner. Whereas the internal display, which is 7.6-inches big has a FaceTime camera hidden under the display, a first for Apple.
You can have two apps running at the same time on the internal display, making it the ideal device for on-the-go multitasking.
The inner display features a ton of layers, including a new nano-texture finish that ensures that the crease is not visible, the display doesn’t feel like cheap plastic, and remains flat when opened.
Now comes my favorite part – both the inner and outer displays have the same aspect ratios. Whether you’re using it open or closed, it feels the same.
These are OLED displays, in case you’re wondering, with peak brightness of up to 3000 nits. If you want a better way to experience your Dolby Vision content, you really can’t top this.
Touch ID Only
Since the iPhone Duo is remarkably thin, just 5.2mm when open, therefore Apple had to skip on Face ID. But there’s Touch ID on the side, which is a tried and tested method for unlocking and authentication.
Apple says you can register several fingerprints at the same time, allowing you to authenticate comfortably, and in different display orientations.
Extremely Durable
A bendy phone is supposed to be fragile, but Apple has manufactured this iPhone with durability in mind, therefore it is forged using one of the toughest materials around, which is titanium.
With Ceramic Shield 2 on the front glass and Ceramic Shield at the back, this phone can easily withstand a ton of things thrown at it. But that’s not where it ends, because with its IP68 rating, you can take the Duo to the pool, the gym, out in the rain, or the beach.
Apple Pencil Support
Apple says it will add Apple Pencil support to iPhone Duo later this year. But it was very specific about the model which will work with the iPhone Duo, and it is the Apple Pencil with USB-C. If you want to make good use of that internal display, you’d want to buy that Apple Pencil now.
Cameras All Around
The Duo has two cameras on the back, one is the main 48-megapixel camera, whereas the second camera is telephoto with a 12-megapixel sensor. There’s no variable aperture or other gimmickry here. Just plain and simple photo and video action, but you do get the fantastic new features such as Dolby Vision Dual Capture and time-lapse.
There’s also a 48-megapixel Fusion Ultra Wide camera, allowing you to take stunning photos in great details when needed.
Since the phone folds, you can use the main camera sensor to take a selfie as well, giving you multiple options to take photos of yourself and everything around you.
There’s even a new Kid Cue mode which plays a fun little animation from Peanuts in order to grab attention of your kid so that you can snap that perfect photo.
Another great feature is called Duo FaceTime. Since both displays have cameras on them, people looking at the inner display and outer display can join the FaceTime call at the same time.
C2 Modem
On the cellular front, Apple is going to ship the Duo with its new C2 modem. It is the first modem from Apple that is going to support mmWave 5G in the United States, whereas you can expect sub-6GHz 5G everywhere else.
Apple says this modem is far more efficient than the C1X while offering 50% faster upload speeds as well.
The iPhone Duo is going to be eSIM only.
Fast Charging and Dual Batteries
Just like the iPhone 18 Pro, the iPhone Duo supports fast charging as well. You can charge the battery from zero to 50% in just 20 minutes if used with a 60W adapter.
There are two high performance batteries in this iPhone since the phone folds in the middle. Onboard controllers ensure that the batteries deliver great performance and remain balanced all the time.
Despite being Apple’s thinnest iPhone, the Duo offers great battery life. Apple says you can expect up to 24 hours of typical use out of it. And, you can expect up to 44 hours of video playback on the outer display, with up to 31 hours offered on the internal display.
Want more numbers? Apple says you can stream video for up to 26 hours on the inner display, and up to 37 hours on the outer display.
A20 Pro Leads the Way
It’s hard to forget what chip powers the iPhone Duo, and it happens to be the A20 Pro. The same 2nm chip which handles everything on the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.
Availability, Price, and Colors
The iPhone Duo is going to be available in two colors – Night Sky and Star White.
Pricing starts at $1,999, and it will be available in 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB configurations.
You will be able to pre-order the iPhone Duo in 70 countries and regions on October 16th, and it will be available on October 23rd. Apple says the phone will become available in 30 more countries and regions on October 30th.
