In case you were wondering, Apple is no longer signing iOS 18.4.1 and iPadOS 18.4.1 software updates. Here’s what it means for you.
Apple Blocks Downgrade from iOS 18.5 to iOS 18.4.1 as it is No Longer Signing the Old Firmware
Whenever Apple releases a new firmware update, it keeps on signing the older version for a bit. In this case, the new firmware is version 18.5 for iPhone and iPad, and the older firmware is 18.4.1.
As long as Apple is signing iOS 18.4.1 and iPadOS 18.4.1, you can downgrade from iOS 18.5 and iPadOS 18.5 if you want to.
Since Apple is no longer signing 18.4.1, you cannot downgrade at all, no matter what you did or tried. So please be careful going forward.
For a lot of people, including myself, this isn’t an issue at all. It’s best to just install the latest update from Apple on your iPhone and iPad as it ensures everything runs as smoothly as possible.
iOS 18.5 and iPadOS 18.5 are packed with a ton of bug fixes and security updates, a couple of things that make this update extremely important.
In order to download the latest update on your iPhone or iPad, just go to Settings > General > Software Update. The page will refresh, and the latest update will show right up. Tap on Update Now, and you’re good to go.
The update will fail if you don’t have a working internet connection or don’t have enough storage space on your device.
