The big question after installing watchOS 27 beta is: can I downgrade back to watchOS 26? Well, it’s complicated.

Installed watchOS 27 Beta and Want to Downgrade? You’re Out of Luck, But Maybe Apple Can Help

watchOS software updates are a one-way street. Once you install them, there’s no going back. This means if you have installed the watchOS 27 beta, or even the final version, you cannot go back to watchOS 26 at all.

However, there’s a good reason for this too.

The thing is, unlike an iPhone, iPad, or Mac, there is no physical port through which you can interface you Apple Watch to your Mac in order to re-install, or downgrade the software that’s installed on it. At home, at least.

But, there’s still hope, assuming you have only installed the beta on your Apple Watch, and not the final version.

If you take your Apple Watch to Apple, in some cases, they can help you downgrade, provided you’re okay being without an Apple Watch for a few days. But this ‘service’ is not available in all countries, therefore it’s better to assume you’re stuck on the beta for good.

But, don’t panic. You can keep on installing the new betas as they arrive with improved stability until the final version becomes available later this year. Once that happens, just disable your Apple Watch from receiving further beta updates by going to Watch > General > Software Update > Beta Updates.

If you are thinking about installing the new watchOS 27 beta, I will highly recommend doing it on a spare device, or at least consider the fact that you cannot downgrade to watchOS 26. Also make sure that your ‘spare’ device is at least a Series 10, because Apple is really brutal with compatibility this year.
