iOS 27 will mainly focus on bug fixes and stability, but the iOS 28 update, which is set for release in 2027, will be far more significant.
Apple’s iOS 28 (Codename: Bell) Update will be Far Significant Compared to iOS 27
We keep hearing from time to time that Apple is going to ship a ‘Snow Leopard’ style update when it comes to iOS 27. Apart from that, we can expect the new Siri to be part of the package as well.
According to a report by Mark Gurman in his PowerOn newsletter, Apple is going to take a big leap forward with iOS 28, and says that it is going to be a far significant update compared to iOS 27.
He specifically didn’t single out iOS in his report, but talks about how the entire version 28 lineup will be significant compared to this year’s release. And it makes sense too, because version 28 of the update aligns with Apple’s 20th-anniversary iPhone as well.
Internally, iOS 28 is being referred to as ‘Bell’ while macOS 28 is being referred to as ‘Poppy’. Quite frankly, these are just internal identifiers, and don’t give away anything at all. But if you consider yourself an expert on codenames, then go ahead and speculate what these names might mean.
