Apple has confirmed on its website that it will be releasing the new AirPods Firmware update as a public beta soon.
Apple Beta Software Program Website Confirms AirPods Firmware Public Beta Availability for Next Month
At WWDC 2025, Apple announced that the first public beta of its software updates will be available in a month.
While it was safe to assume at the time that Apple was going to release iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS 26 as public betas, there are a couple of surprises on Apple’s website.
Right on its Beta Software Program website, Apple says that it will be releasing the newly announced AirPods firmware as a public beta next month. Not only that, users will also be able to test out the new HomePod software update 26 as a public beta too.

If you’re already a developer, you can download and install the new AirPods Firmware right away. But it does require you to have iOS 26 beta installed on your iPhone as well. If you already fulfill the iPhone requirement, then follow the tutorial posted here.
Usually, the first public beta arrives when Apple has seeded the third developer beta of its software lineup. These betas are usually very stable, but not stable enough for daily driver use.
I will walk everyone through the public beta download process when it is available, even for AirPods.
