Apple Knocks it Out of the Park with iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max with A20 Pro, Variable Aperture Camera, and More
Apple has announced two new iPhone models – the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. These phones are faster than ever, feature improved battery life, and come in new colors.
Same Design with Meaningful Tweaks
In terms of design, these phones look similar to the last one – the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max. But the glass section at the back now matches the aluminum finish for a more consistent look.
New Colors
The phone now comes in new colors – a new deeper black, silver, a new glacier finish, and an entirely new color called burgundy.
Big Performance with A20 Pro
When it comes to performance, the A20 Pro is super fast. It is based on the 2nm process, it features a 6-core CPU, 7-core GPU offering 40% gain in performance, thanks to that 2nm process. Even the Neural Accelerators are 2x faster.
The Neural Engine gets a huge boost as well, and Apple is shipping twice as many cores, taking the total up to 32 cores. This makes it 50% faster than before.
Both phones offer an improved vapor chamber cooling system with 3x the surface area with even better heat dissipation and performance.
Biggest Battery and Fastest Charging
Apple says the iPhone 18 Pro Max offers the biggest battery upgrade ever and offers up to 45 hours of video playback. The iPhone 18 Pro offers 24 hours of usage on a full charge, while the 18 Pro Max offers up to 30 hours of use per charge.
Wired charging gets a huge upgrade as well, and Apple says you can expect up to 50% battery in just 15 minutes of charge. Yes, from zero to 50% in just 15 minutes. This is a dream come true for a lot of users out there.
Huge Camera Upgrades with Variable Aperture
On the camera front, the main sensor has a variable aperture, something that was teased by John Ternus himself. This is still a 48-megapixel camera, but it is the most advanced camera on iPhone.
The aperture adjusts automatically, allowing you to take your best shots without tinkering around with the camera too much. In other words, your iPhone adjusts the aperture perfectly, allowing in the right amount of light, with the correct shutter speed to deliver you the crispiest photos and videos ever.
Pro Controls in Camera App
Pro controls are coming to iPhone as well, or more specifically the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. You can change white balance, use the histogram, manually adjust aperture, or even change shutter speed, right from the Camera app.
And yes, pro controls work on video as well, allowing you to adjust aperture and shutter speed for that motion blur effect in fast-moving scenes.
Upgraded Dynamic Island
The Dynamic Island has been upgraded as well, and it slightly more compact. It now shows up to three Live Activities, perfect for users who want to see more that’s happening in the background.
C2 Modem
Apple is bringing in its in-house modem to the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. The C2 modem offers mmWave 5G support in the United States with up to 50% faster upload speeds as well.
That’s not all, the C2 modem is very power efficient, which directly translates to improved battery life.
Price and Availability
iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199, and comes in a new 2TB model, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max starts from $1,299.
