Apple just stopped signing the iOS 26.4.2 and iPadOS 26.4.2 updates, which means you can no longer downgrade your iPhone and iPad.

You Can No Longer Downgrade from iOS 26.5 to iOS 26.4.2 as Apple has Stopped Signing the Older Firmware Update

It’s been nearly 10 days since Apple released iOS 26.5 for iPhone, and iPadOS 26.5 for iPad. If you were thinking about downgrading to iOS 26.4.2 or iPadOS 26.4.2, that option is now off the table, because Apple is no longer signing the older firmware.

Given how many under-the-hood changes the 26.5 update brings to iPhone and iPad, it is recommended that you go right ahead and install the latest software immediately.

You can do that by going to Settings > General > Software Update. Once here, the update will show up after a minute or so, and all you have to do is tap on the Update Now button.

Given how close we are to the announcement of iOS 27 and other updates, it is very unlikely that Apple would announce any new major update for current 26.0 users.
