Goodbye, Intel. Apple Says macOS 26 Tahoe is the Last Update for Intel Macs
One look at the macOS 26 Tahoe compatibility list and you instantly realize that Apple is steering away from Intel Macs in favor of Apple silicon, of course.
This is something that has been happening for a long time, with support for Intel Macs being dropped every single at a rapid pace.
Apple has announced at its Platforms State of the Union event that macOS 26 Tahoe is the last major macOS update Intel Macs will ever get. But of course, these Macs will keep on receiving security updates, just like old iPhones and iPads keep on getting on a regular basis.
With the release of M1 back in 2020, Apple opened up the possibility to a lot of new features, something which just wasn’t possible with Intel. Right at the top of that features list is huge battery life.
Currently, Apple doesn’t sell any Intel Mac at all, though you can find a good deal on it on places like Amazon if you wanted to. If it’s just everyday computing without the bells and whistles, Intel is just fine.
But if you care for AI, superior battery life, quieter operation, then Apple silicon is the way to go.
It’s just very hard to recommend an Intel Mac in 2025, unless you have a good reason for it, and I bet you don’t. Holding on to an Intel Mac because of that one task only x86 can perform in your dreams is not a good enough excuse.
