watchOS 26 developer beta 1 is now available for download, and here’s how you can install it on your Apple Watch.

Apple Releases watchOS 26 Beta 1 for Apple Watch, Download it Today and Test Out the New UI and Features

Installing a developer beta of watchOS is a huge commitment. Once you install the update, you cannot downgrade back to the publicly available version of watchOS.

However, if you have made up your mind regarding testing out watchOS 26 beta, then here’s what you have to do.

Check if Your Apple Watch is Compatible

You must have an Apple Watch that is compatible with watchOS 26, otherwise you can’t go forward. These are the models supported by the new update:

  • Apple Watch Series 6
  • Apple Watch Series 7
  • Apple Watch Series 8
  • Apple Watch Series 9
  • Apple Watch Series 10
  • Apple Watch Ultra
  • Apple Watch Ultra

You Need an iPhone that is Compatible with iOS 26

The iPhone you currently have must also support iOS 26 in order to download and install watchOS 26. You can find out if your iPhone is supported by going here.

If your iPhone supports iOS 26, then you are ready for the next step.

Sign up to the Apple Developer Program

This is a necessary step in order to access the watchOS 26 developer beta. Just sign in here using your Apple Account and you’ll get access to the developer beta.

Risks Involved

Like I said, installing a watchOS beta is a huge commitment. Once you install the first one, you have to install each and every single beta until the final version comes out. There’s no method to downgrade the Apple Watch back to watchOS 11.

If you fully understand this, then move forward.

Download and Install watchOS 26 Beta 1

Step 1. Make sure your Apple Watch is paired with your iPhone and is in fully working order.

Step 2. Download and install iOS 26 beta 1 on your iPhone. You’ll find all the necessary details right here.

Step 3. Enable watchOS 26 developer beta update by going to Watch > General > Software Update > Beta Update on your iPhone. Select watchOS 26 Developer Beta.

Step 4. On your iPhone, you can download the watchOS 26 developer beta 1 by going to Watch > General > Software Update. Tap on Update Now at the bottom to begin downloading.

Do keep in mind that you do not get the option to ‘clean install’ watchOS beta update. You have to perform an over-the-air update, nothing else.
