Previously rumored to ship with 8GB of RAM, a new report suggests Apple might boost the iPhone 17 Air RAM to 12GB.
Apple’s Super-thin iPhone 17 Air will Also Feature with 12GB of RAM
Rumors about 12GB of RAM in the iPhone 17 lineup have been floating around for quite some time. However, the likely recipient of that much RAM was the Pro Max model.
Ming-Chi Kuo has jumped into the scene today and suggested that Apple is going to ship the iPhone 17 Air with 12GB of RAM as well. Interestingly, the base iPhone 17 model might not get the upgrade.
However, Ming-Chi Kuo goes on to state that even if one smartphone ships without 12GB of RAM this year, the entire iPhone 18 lineup will get the upgrade anyway.
However, an earlier report did speculate that the entire lineup will be upgraded to more RAM this year. We’ll know in the coming days and months which report holds more weight.
It remains to be seen how Apple plans to utilize 12GB of RAM in its smartphone lineup. But I have this feeling the company is doing this to give its AI features extra headroom for performance.
In terms of design, the iPhone 17 Air is set to be the thinnest Apple smartphone to date. And if recent reactions to the dummy model are anything to go by, it seems as though Apple is going to grab the attention of a lot of people.
