Here’s a complete step-by-step tutorial on how to view and recover deleted messages on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac in the Messages app.
iOS, iPadOS and macOS Lets You Recover Deleted Threads in Messages App Instantly
We delete a lot of threads from the Messages app on iPhone, iPad, and Mac from time to time. If you accidentally deleted something which you shouldn’t have, then you will be pleased to learn that you can recover your deleted messages too.
However, you do have to keep in mind that messages older than 30 days are automatically deleted forever.
If you are certain not that much time has passed, then here’s what you need to do on your iPhone and iPad:
Step 1. Launch the Messages app.
Step 2. At the top left you should see the Edit button. Tap on it.
Step 3. Now tap on Show Recently Deleted.

Step 4. You’ll see all your conversation threads which you deleted within 30 days. At the bottom you’ll see Delete All and Recover All. However, if you just want to recover one thread, then select it and then tap on Recover at the bottom right.

If you are using a Mac, here’s what you need to do:
Step 1. Launch the Messages app.
Step 2. Click on the View option in the menu bar at the top.
Step 3. Now click on Recently Deleted.

Step 4. Click on the conversation you want to recover and then click on Recover.

Step 5. You can go back to viewing all your messages by clicking on View in the menu bar and then select All Messages.
If you don’t find what you’re looking for in the Recently Deleted section, then it’s gone for good and can’t be recovered at all, no matter what you did.
