The M6-powered iMac is finally here, and that chip upgrade is exactly what makes this all-in-one desktop so great.

Apple’s New iMac Comes in the Same Beautiful Design and Colors, But Takes Everything up a Notch with the M6 Chip

Apple announced the M4 iMac back in 2024, and the company skipped the M5 version entirely, because it really doesn’t need a chip upgrade that often. Today, Apple has announced the new model with M6.

Same Design but Big Muscles

In terms of design, nothing has changed at all, so there’s no point in talking about it. But the M6 chip has given the new iMac a ton of firepower under the hood. Whether you’re just sending a text message or doing some task that requires on-device AI, the iMac can do it all.

Apple really wants you to ditch your M1 iMac and get the new one. It says that the M6 chip allows the iMac to deliver 2.5x faster performance in apps like Excel, and that’s compared to the M1 model.

You can expect up to 3.3x faster graphics performance when editing photos in apps like Affinity, that too when compared to the M1 iMac. And, if you’re really into AI stuff, you can expect up to 12x faster on-device AI performance in LM Studio.

Apple says the new iMac comes with an up to 12-core CPU, and up to a 12-core GPU. That’s two extra cores for both CPU and GPU compared to the M4 model it is replacing.

There are Neural Accelerators, because that’s clearly necessary in this economy and lifestyle. And there is a new Dual 16-core Neural Engine as well, allowing 2x faster AI compute than before.

Excellent Connectivity (as Always)

On the wireless end, the iMac now features Wi-Fi 7, and support for Bluetooth 6.0. There are also up to four Thunderbolt 4 ports at the back and support for up to two 6K external displays.

Price and Availability

Apple says that the base model M6 iMac includes a 10-core CPU, and a 10-core GPU, and it will cost you $1,449. The one with a 12-core CPU, and 12-core GPU, will set you back $1,599. A little steep, but you can blame the memory situation for that.

You will be able to pre-order the new iMac tomorrow, which is the 28th of October, and it will be in stores in 35 countries starting November 6th.
