You might have seen photos and videos floating around of the iPhone Duo inner display cracking. Apple has officially responded to it.
Small Number of iPhone Duo Affected with Inner Display Cracking Issue, Apple Says it Will Replace Broken Devices
I didn’t report on this because I wanted to jump directly on what Apple has to say on this matter. Silence would have made the matter worse, and an official word ensures that Apple is looking after everyone.
According to 9to5Mac, Apple is well aware of the display cracking issue on the iPhone Duo, and has issued the following statement:
The response to iPhone Duo from early users has been incredibly positive, and we are seeing exciting things from developers who are rapidly updating their apps to take advantage of its unique form factor. We are aware of an issue impacting the inner display on a small number of iPhone Duo units. If users experience issues with their iPhone Duo display, they should contact AppleCare for a replacement.
Apple assures that damaged devices will be replaced, and that’s exactly what everyone should be doing if and when the inner display shows signs of damage.
Given the amount of detective work the internet has already done, it appears that the issue is happening due to a faulty batch of hinge mechanism Apple is using.
It is still early days, and Apple’s foldable is set to be the best-selling in the world too. If there are going to be issues, we’ll see them in the coming days, weeks, and months. Let’s see how things stack up before the second-generation model of iPhone Duo is released.
