Apple Releases Beta 2 of macOS 27 Golden Gate for Developers, Download it Now Over the Air
To begin with, macOS 27 beta 1 is an extremely stable (as unfinished software) and makes you wonder what the final version might actually feel like. Nonetheless, Apple is constantly working in the background to make macOS 27 extremely stable before releasing it to the public later this year.
Right now, the second developer beta of macOS 27 Golden Gate is available for download, and it includes a handful of bug fixes, improvements, and of course, feature tweaks.
If you already have the first developer beta of macOS 27 installed on your Mac, then you can download the latest update by following these steps:
- Save all your work, and make sure you’re connected to a power outlet and Wi-Fi.
- Launch the System Settings app.
- Now go to General > Software Update.
- When you see the second developer beta, click on the Update Now button.
Like any other macOS update, this one spans several gigabytes in size and may take a while to download which happens to be pretty standard stuff. Once downloaded, your Mac will restart in order to install the update.
Apple says the latest macOS 27 beta has the following build number: 26A5368g
If you’re interested in taking the new macOS 27 Golden Gate beta for a spin on your Mac, you will find all of the details posted right here. Do keep in mind that having an Apple silicon Mac is a strict requirement as Apple has dropped for the Intel Mac completely this year.
Also, since this is beta software, therefore you can expect poor third-party software support. Don’t be surprised at all if your favorite app feels slow or broken. Eventually, it will receive the necessary updates, but it may be a while until that happens.
Personally, I will recommend installing the macOS 27 beta when the public beta version is out. Apple will likely release it next month, and that’s usually the time when software starts to become stable enough for daily-driver use.
I’m 90% certain that you’re going to install the update on your main device, and that’s understandable, because not everyone has a spare Mac lying around. But when you do walk the beta path, make sure you know about the risks that are involved.
