Apple’s OLED MacBook Pro with a touchscreen is said to run a version of macOS that will have optimized controls for touch.
M6 MacBook Pro to Feature OLED Touchscreen Display, Dynamic Island, Touch-Optimized macOS, Launching in 2026
A new report by Bloomberg shares a lot of details on Apple’s upcoming MacBook Pro refresh, the one that is set for launch later this year with an OLED display.
First and foremost, it will have a touchscreen OLED display, something we’ve heard about before as well. But instead of a notch like the current lineup of MacBooks, the new one will have an iPhone-like Dynamic Island, which means the display will be very pleasing to look at, aesthetically.
Do keep in mind that this isn’t quite new information at all, just a reaffirmation of what is already floating around, and that definitely shapes up things nicely.
However, the one thing that will make this MacBook Pro more interesting is that it will run a version of macOS that is optimized for touch. Whenever the user goes ahead and touches something on the display, macOS will immediately show redesigned controls that are better suited for touch.
The user can jump between a regular or touch-based experience without having to make special adjustments, and that’s the sort of thing you can expect from Apple only.
Though the report doesn’t touch on this at all, I really wish this new MacBook Pro, which will likely be powered by the M6, ships with 5G cellular connectivity as standard. Now that Apple is making its own modem for iPhone and iPad, it makes perfect sense that it brings the technology to the Mac as well.
Apple is expected to launch the new MacBook Pro with an OLED touchscreen display at the end of 2026. You now have to decide whether you want to get that M5 MacBook Pro or wait a little while longer and get a better laptop.
