Apple launched the iPhone Air in China on Friday, and mere hours after launch, it has sold out.

The iPhone Air is a Huge Hit in China – Sells Out Complete in Mere Hours After Launch on Friday

If you go through social media or other reports online, you’ll start to realize that the standard iPhone 17 and the iPhone 17 Pro are the most popular among the lineup.

iPhone Air, not so much.

While people in different markets around the world do love iPhone Air, consumers are usually interested in getting the most amount of iPhone for their money.

Does it have a smaller battery? Does it have a single camera only? If the answer to those questions is yes, then the consumer will usually stay away from such a phone.

In China, things are very different. With iPhone Air being delayed due to lack of eSIM support by carriers, no one was expecting iPhone Air to be this big of a hit.

When the first pre-orders went live on Friday, after necessary eSIM approvals were made, according to South China Morning Post, different storage tiers started to sell out rather rapidly, and in two hours, most of the stock was gone, and many buyers weren’t able to get their hands on the model they wanted.

This is absolutely fascinating. Because we’re usually led to believe that features like AI, multiple cameras, bigger batteries, larger displays, and whatnot are the true driving factors in sales.

Turns out, sometimes the user just needs something new and unique compared to last year, and the iPhone Air is every bit of that, at least in China.
