Apple has just announced the new M5 MacBook Pro with 14-inch display. Here’s everything that is new in the notebook.
M5 MacBook Pro with 14-inch Display Now Official with Big Performance and Battery Life Gains
The one thing that immediately stands out is the fact that Apple is only announcing just one MacBook Pro model today, and that’s the base model. There are no M5 Pro or M5 Max chips happening today, nor there is a 16-inch MacBook Pro with any variant of the M5.
I’m assuming more options are coming either later this year, or in early 2026.
In terms of design, Apple is not changing anything on the MacBook Pro, and it looks exactly the same as the M4 model. But the heart of the notebook has changed a lot, thanks to the M5 chip.
New M5 Chip Comes to MacBook Pro
You get a 10-core CPU with 4 performance cores and 6 efficiency cores, a 10-core GPU with Neural Accelerators, a 16-core Neural Engine, and 153GB/s memory bandwidth.
Apple says the new M5 chip offer 3.5x more AI performance compared to M4, which means Apple Intelligence tasks should feel way faster than before.
Users can expect up to 1.6x faster GPU performance in pro apps, and 1.6x higher frame rates in games when directly compared to the M4 chip.
Since the M5 chip is more efficient than ever before, you can expect it to offer bigger battery gains as well, with Apple touting up to 24 hours of battery life on a single charge.
Apple is really pitching the M5 MacBook Pro to Intel users and says they can expect up to 86x faster AI performance, 30x faster GPU performance, and up to 5.5x faster CPU performance.
2x Faster SSD Performance and 4TB Option
Apple has snuck in an SSD in the new MacBook Pro that is two times faster than the one in the M4 model, and users also get the option to upgrade to a 4TB model if needed.
That 4TB option means you won’t be reaching for an external drive more often when working with big files.
Pricing and Release Date
The new 14-inch M5 MacBook Pro starts at $1,499 and is available in 30 countries. You can pre-order it today, and it will be available in stores starting on October 22nd.
The M4 Pro and M4 Max models will sell alongside the new M5 MacBook Pro.
