The iPhone 17 lineup might be able to charge up rapidly using MagSafe, thanks to support for the new Qi 2.2 standard.

Apple’s New Faster 50W MagSafe Charger with Qi 2.2 Goes Through Certification, Likely for Upcoming iPhone 17 Lineup

According to a regulatory filing on Taiwan’s NCC website, spotted by 91Mobiles, Apple is going to release a faster version of its MagSafe Charger with support for 50W speeds with full support for the new Qi 2.2 standard.

The new charging standard supports faster wireless charging speeds and is fully backwards compatible with older iPhone models, which means the new 50W MagSafe Charger will work with current devices, but limited to speeds that they support.

What this means is, if you connect the new MagSafe Charger with something like an iPhone 16, you’ll get up to 25W of charging speeds, while everything else will be limited to 15W.

The new MagSafe Charger will be available in 1-meter and 2-meter cable lengths, just like the current charger from Apple. And from the looks of it, it will follow the same design as the latest charger as well, braided cable and all.

Given the timing of this charger in the regulatory database, it seems like it will make its debut alongside the iPhone 17.

Does this also mean the iPhone 17 lineup is set to get a huge boost in wired charging speed too? It seems likely.

The way I see it, such fast charging speeds wirelessly will come in handy for a smartphone like the iPhone 17 Air, which will reportedly have terrible battery life and will rely on AI features to help it reach the end of the day.

Anything that tops up the iPhone 17 Air’s battery as fast as possible is going to be helpful.

On the other hand, the iPhone 17 Pro Max is said to feature the largest battery in any iPhone to date. Faster wireless charging speeds mean less time charging and more time using.
