A new report sheds some light on the Apple smart glasses, and it appears to be an extension of your iPhone at best.
Apple is Working on a Pair of Smart Glasses Without a Display, But Will Have Built-in Cameras and AI Features
Apple is working on a pair of smart glasses, and that’s no secret at all. It’s so important for Apple that Tim Cook has it at the top of his list of products for release.
While the full-blown augmented reality glasses with a built-in display are far away, Apple is going to release a version of its smart glasses which aim to go after the Meta Ray-Ban glasses.
According to Bloomberg, these glasses won’t have a built-in display, but will use cameras to analyze your surroundings and utilize AI to answer your questions. That’s as vanilla as it gets, and something a free app on your iPhone can do.
There will be speakers built into the glasses and microphones. The design will closely resemble a pair of regular glasses too.
While the above mentioned smart glasses are set for release in 2027, I’m more interested in the product that goes after Meta’s Orion.
A pair of glasses with built-in AI without a display is the most boring form of hardware anyone can come up with and we have plenty of them right now.
There is a chance Apple’s smart glasses may not even allow the user to take photos due to privacy concerns.
I’m sure a lot of people will find such a product useful, but for me, it’s just another battery I would have to charge to keep things up and running.
