According to a new report, Apple is going to release the M6 chip, but will skip higher-end variants of it. The big focus is on M7.

M6 is Coming Later this Year and Won’t See Higher-End Variants, M7 Coming Next Year with Strict Focus on AI Workloads

It’s obvious to assume that Apple is going to release the M6 series of chips after the current M5. Turns out, that’s partially true.

According to a report by Bloomberg, Apple is focusing big on AI with its hardware, and due to that, changing the way it launches the M-series chips in the next couple of years.

The report says that Apple is going to release the M6 chip with an improved CPU and GPU later this year, offering ample gains in performance compared to M5. But, there aren’t going to be any M6 Pro or M6 Max chips, just the plain and vanilla M6.

The M7 chip is launching in 2027, and Apple is going to launch the M7 Pro and M7 Max variants of it later in the same year. The primary focus of these chips are AI workloads, and this gives you an idea where future Apple products are headed.

The report also says the M5 Ultra chip is still coming later this year, and Apple plans to use it in the Mac Studio.

Given the current state of memory and hardware prices, it makes you wonder if this has something to do with the new strategy. After all, Apple isn’t invincible to these changes, and it did bump up the prices of its products today.

Or maybe, it’s the new direction Apple is taking with its new CEO.
