According to leaked information shared online, the upcoming iPhone 18e smartphone won’t be getting the 120Hz ProMotion display.

Apple’s iPhone 18e Will Ship with a 60Hz OLED Display Instead of 120Hz ProMotion, According to Leaked Information

There are a ton of reasons why someone would not purchase a particular generation of smartphone. For example, some iPhone 16e buyers thought MagSafe was a necessary feature, something the iPhone 17e added.

If you skipped upgrading to an ‘e’ iPhone thinking that it lacks a 120Hz ProMotion display, then you will be disappointed to learn that the iPhone 18e won’t have it either, according to leaked information, of course.

Information shared by Digital Chat Station on Weibo reveals that the iPhone 18e will have an OLED display, but it will be locked to 60Hz, because Apple is going to use a LTPS panel, instead of LTPO with variable refresh rate.

Personally, I think having an OLED panel instead of LCD is already a way better deal than having 120Hz refresh rate display. I care more about color depth and accuracy than how smoothly system animations end.

Do keep in mind that the iPhone 18e will likely be announced early next year. But it remains to be seen if it retains its $599 starting price, or gets a bump up to $699, thanks to the ongoing memory chip shortage.
