Apple has released the first-ever Background Security Improvement update for iOS 26.3.1, iPadOS 26.3.1, and macOS 26.3.1 users.

iOS 26.3.1 (a), iPadOS 26.3.1 (a), and macOS 26.3.1 (a) Background Security Improvement Update Now Available for Download

If you are already running iOS 26.3.1, iPadOS 26.3.1, or macOS 26.3.1 on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac, then you can go ahead and download the first Background Security Improvement update.

This is a completely separate thing from usual software updates and won’t show up in Settings > General > Software Update. Instead, you’ll find this under Settings > Privacy & Security > Background Security Improvements on iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

These updates are meant to deliver you the latest security patches as quickly as possible, and they install automatically in the background. However, if you take the route mentioned above, you can manually install them, and I do recommend doing that.

The update which was released today is meant to patch an important WebKit-related vulnerability, which means you should update all your devices immediately.
