A leak shows which Macs will be compatible with the upcoming macOS 26 Tahoe software update.
macOS 26 Tahoe will be Compatible with a Bunch of Macs, But Many Mac Models Losing Support this Year
macOS 26 is going to be announced on Monday, and while the announcement is definitely going to be a fun one, there is one thing I’m certain people are looking forward to the most – which Mac models will be supported.
According to a private account on X with a very reliable track record, Apple’s upcoming operating system for the Mac will be compatible with the following Macs:
- iMac, 2020 and later
- Mac Pro, 2019 and later
- Mac mini, M1 and later
- Mac Studio, 2022 and later
- MacBook Pro, 2019 and later
- MacBook Air, M1 and later
If you own one of the Macs above, not only can you install macOS 26 when it comes out later this year, but you can test out the beta on Monday as well.
In case you haven’t noticed it by now, there are several Macs missing from the list. For example, the iMac Pro isn’t supported at all, unless the account forgot to add the computer to the list.
But I’m not surprised, given how old the iMac Pro is at this point.
The 2019 iMac is also losing support this year, as well as all Intel Mac mini models. In fact, all MacBook Air models with Intel are losing software update support this year too.
On the MacBook Pro end, the list now starts from the 2019 model, whereas macOS Sequoia supported the 2018 one with Intel.
According to a recent report, Apple is going to call the next Mac update macOS Tahoe. A very fitting name since the lake itself beautifully reflects everything above it, like glass.
