President Trump has told CEO Tim Cook that Apple needs to make the iPhone in the United States, or else it will face tariffs.

President Trump Threatens 25% Tariff on Apple if it Doesn’t Manufacture iPhones in the United States

It’s no secret that Apple is moving its manufacturing away from China for quite some time now. Currently, Apple is relying on India for most of its iPhone production for devices sold in the United States.

However, President Trump is not having any of it and has told Apple CEO Tim Cook that he wants him to manufacture the iPhone in the United States, nowhere else, not even India.

Failure to do so will result in a 25% tariff on Apple.

Of course, this news did have an effect on Apple stock as it immediately plunged 3%. But given its early days, there is a chance things might change going forward.

But, the interesting thing here is, the President wants iPhones sold in the United States to be made in the United States only.

It will be interesting to see how Apple will respond to this. Setting up an iPhone manufacturing plant is something that can’t be done overnight. But given Tim Cook’s background, I wouldn’t be surprised if he manages to do it anyway in record time.
