The iPad has gained a lot of market share compared to last year, but the reason why that has happened is pretty interesting.

iPad Sees Huge Demand Versus Last Year, Overall Tablet Market Sees Growth too

According to the latest data shared by Canalys, Apple shipped 13.7 million iPads this quarter versus 12.1 million last year. Due to this increase, Apple’s market share now sits at 37.3% versus 35.5% from last year.

iPad saw a growth of 14% versus last year which is a big deal.

When you take every other tablet maker into account, 36.8 million units were shipped in the first quarter of this year. Overall, the tablet market saw an increased growth of 8.5% versus last year.

But, why is iPad suddenly climbing the charts?

Turns out, users keep their iPads with them for up to five years before they decide to upgrade. The last big upgrade cycle happened during the pandemic when people bought a lot of iPads for work and entertainment purposes.

Now that the five years are up, users have started to upgrade their devices in huge numbers. After all, the new M3 iPad Air, M4 iPad Pro, A16 iPad, and A17 Pro iPad mini are very exciting products.

If you still own an iPad from 2020 or around that time period, now is a great time to upgrade because the amount of features you get, especially when it comes to performance, are huge.

Interestingly, on the other side of the fence, the iPhone is not seeing its best days, especially when you focus on China. Latest data says Apple shipped 50% fewer iPhones compared to last year.
