In Q1 of 2025, iPhone sales in China dropped significantly compared to last year. Everyone else has seen massive growth.

Latest Data Shows Apple Lost 9% Market Share in Q1 2025 Compared to Last Year

Apple’s Q1 was fantastic around the world, thanks to iPhone 16e. However, when you have a look at China, things are very different for Apple.

Data published by IDC reveals that Apple lost 9% of market share in Q1 of 2025 compared to last year. What makes this even worse is that Apple is the only major player in China that lost market share this year. Everyone else saw massive growth.

Xiaomi saw year-over-year growth of 39.9%, whereas Huawei saw a growth of 10%. That’s a massive improvement over last year.

Apple CEO Tim Cook said the lack of Apple Intelligence in the country is to be blamed for poor iPhone 16 sales. But I’m pretty sure that’s not the problem at all.

Let’s assume for a second lack of AI features on iPhone in China is to be blamed, then the iPhone should see sudden growth in Q2.

Guess we’ll be waiting for more data to arrive.

The thing is, a lot of smartphone buyers tend to go for value rather than features like AI when buying a smartphone. Companies like Xiaomi and Huawei offer a massive portfolio of smartphones at different price points which definitely helps in the long run.

Apple’s cheapest phone from the flagship lineup starts at $599. That says a lot.
