A freshly posted rumor suggests that Apple’s upcoming iPad mini refresh with the OLED display will have a 60Hz panel.

Fresh Rumor Suggests Apple will Use 60Hz LTPS OLED Panel on iPad mini 8

Before you go ahead and say that ProMotion, Apple’s 120Hz display technology, is a “Pro” device feature, do know that the standard iPhone 17 model has it too, so that argument instantly goes out the window.

That being said, some reports and rumors have suggested that Apple might ship the new iPad mini with a 120Hz display instead of 60Hz. However, a rumor posted on Naver by yeux1122 suggests Apple might stick with a 60Hz refresh rate display.

The rumor also says that Apple is going to use an LTPS panel instead of LTPO on the iPad mini. Without getting too technical, it means the panel does not have a variable refresh rate and will likely be locked to 60Hz. Not only that, LTPS panels aren’t as bright as LTPO used on devices like the iPhone and iPad Pro.

Since this is essentially an OLED display we’re talking about, it means you get the full advantage of the technology, including deeper blacks, fantastic highlights while watching Dolby Vision content, and more.

The iPad mini never had a better display compared to the rest of the iPad lineup. It’s not surprising that Apple wants to maintain that with the upcoming iPad mini 8 refresh as well.

I think no matter what route Apple takes – 60Hz or 120Hz – it will still be well received by fans, because even a worse OLED panel is still better than what the current iPad mini 7 ships with.
