There’s a new Mac Studio in town, and it is powered by the extreme M5 Ultra chip. It comes wth M5 Max as standard.
M5 Max and M5 Ultra-Powered Mac Studio Sets the Bar for Performance and AI Extremely High
With the Mac Pro discontinued, it only made sense that Apple would replace it with something more powerful, and it has, with the new Mac Studio, now powered by the M5 Max and M5 Ultra chips.
Faster Everything, Built for AI
Apple is really pitching the Mac Studio for AI workflows since it delivers up to 4.3x faster AI performance. And, apart from that, you get two times faster storage, 1.8x faster graphics, and up to 1.3x faster CPU.
With built-in support for creating clusters, Apple says you can connect four Mac Studios together for up to 3x faster AI inference compared to just one. In short, if you plan on running your own AI slop farm, the Mac Studio will allow you to do just that.
Mac Studio Now with M5 Max
When it comes to performance, the Mac Studio delivers without skipping a beat. The Mac Studio comes with an 18-core CPU, and you can configure it with up to a 40-core GPU for powerful graphics performance and workloads.
The new Mac Studio offers up to 614GB/s memory bandwidth, which makes it great for on-device AI tasks, because apparently, that’s what people are doing these days, nothing else.
Mac Studio Flies Higher with M5 Ultra
If you think the M5 Max isn’t enough, the Mac Studio now comes with the M5 Ultra chip as well. In fact, you’re really not ready for these numbers at all.
Apple is shipping the Mac Studio with M5 Ultra with up to 36-core CPU, and up to 80-core GPU. Compared to the M3 Ultra, you get up to 1.3x faster multi-threaded performance, and up to 4.3x peak AI compute performance.
You can configure the Mac Studio with up to 512GB of RAM with a whopping 1.2TB/s of memory bandwidth. If that doesn’t make you cry, the price of this configuration definitely will.
Faster Everything Else too
Apple is shipping the Mac Studio with twice the storage performance compared to the previous model. This gain in performance is made possible by the use of PCIe Gen 6 architecture.
Thunderbolt 5 is also part of the Mac Studio, allowing up to 120Gb/s of bandwidth for faster everything, really.
Last but not least, Apple is bringing its N1 wireless chip to the Mac Studio, bringing super-fast and reliable Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 connectivity to the table.
Pre-Order Available Today
You can pre-order the Mac Studio today, and it will start to ship on the 22nd of September. However, the model with 512GB of RAM is coming in late October.
It Doesn’t Come Cheap
The Mac Studio starts at $2,499 for the M5 Max model. But the moment you configure it with M5 Ultra, the price goes to $5,499. However, education pricing brings the price down to $2,299 and $5,099, respectively.
