We’ve been hearing about the Apple smart glasses for quite some time now. They will be available in a bunch of different styles, and are rumored to launch some time in 2027.
Over the weekend, Mark Gurman shared some interesting information in his PowerOn newsletter, and it gives us a glimpse into what we can expect from Apple for their new product category.
Just like Meta smart glasses, the Apple smart glasses will have built-in cameras as well. But, it seems as though these cameras may be limited for AI use, and users may not be able to take photos or record video.
The report says that Apple will focus on the privacy features of its smart glasses a lot. But the report takes a strange turn when you learn that Apple even tested a pair of smart glasses without cameras entirely.
The smart glasses from Apple will definitely have cameras in them for Visual Intelligence features such as identifying objects, making Calendar entries, and whatnot. But will it allow users to record POV video or photos?
I wouldn’t be surprised if it doesn’t, especially after the backlash Meta has received from people being recorded without their consent.
The part of the report that caught my attention the most is the announcement at WWDC 2027 next year. After all, WWDC has always been a stage for announcing new software, and it is not common for Apple to announce new hardware.
