You can now download and install iOS 26.2.1 and iPadOS 26.2.1 for iPhone and iPad with full support for AirTag second generation.

iOS 26.2.1 and iPadOS 26.2.1 Now Available for Download with Full Support for Apple’s Latest Item Tracker – the AirTag 2

Apple announced the second-generation AirTag just a while back. And of course, a software update on iPhone and iPad would be required to add support for the newly launched hardware.

That software update is iOS 26.2.1 for iPhone, iPadOS 26.2.1 for iPad, and you can download it right now. But first, let’s have a look at the official literature from Apple about the update, otherwise known as the changelog:

This update provides support for AirTag (2nd generation) along with bug fixes.

With that out of the way, you can download the new update by simply going to Settings > General > Software Update on your iPhone or iPad. Once here, the page will fully refresh, and you’ll see the new update. Tap on the Update Now button, and you’re good to go.

According to Apple, the new software update has the following build number: 23C71

The update may take a while to install, and I will recommend putting your iPhone or iPad on charge during the entire process.
