Apple UI Design Chief Alan Dye, Responsible for Liquid Glass, is Leaving for Meta
Alan Dye has been at Apple since 2006, and he took over the company’s design team in 2015. Needless to say, he’s been around for quite a while, and since Steve Jobs’ days.
Today, Bloomberg is reporting that Alan Dye is departing Apple and going to Meta, where he will work on hardware design and whatnot.
Apple CEO Tim Cook weighed in on the matter with an official statement:
Steve Lemay has played a key role in the design of every major Apple interface since 1999. He has always set an extraordinarily high bar for excellence and embodies Apple’s culture of collaboration and creativity.
Design is fundamental to who we are at Apple, and today, we have an extraordinary design team working on the most innovative product lineup in our history.
I’m glad to see that Tim Cook isn’t bothered much about Alan’s departure and believes the design team is in good hands.
If you’re not familiar with Alan Dye’s work, then let me make it clear that you already are, and just don’t know about it. He is the one who worked on Liquid Glass and the Vision Pro user interface.
Not only that, he worked on the iPhone X design, as well as Dynamic Island, and watchOS. Pretty heavyweight stuff, if you’re asking me.
Apple is replacing Alan Dye with Stephen Lemay.
Without a doubt, Alan Dye is leaving a strong footprint behind at Apple. And if you want to relive his work, what better way to do it than his last official video where he talks about Liquid Glass, right?
Given the amount of employees that have left Apple for Meta, I wouldn’t be surprised if Tim Cook goes straight to Meta after his retirement as well.
