The first developer beta of the tvOS 26.1 update is now available to download for Apple TV. You can install the update over the air.
tvOS 26.1 Beta 1 for Apple TV is Now Available for Download Over the Air
tvOS 26.0 is a solid update and it gives the Apple TV a fresh new feel. However, Apple is taking things a mile further with the release of tvOS 26.1.
The update is currently available for download to developers only. Those enrolled in the Apple Developer Program can immediately download the new update on their Apple TV.
The method to download and install the new tvOS 26.1 update is exactly how it was for the initial tvOS 26 beta, and you’ll find all the steps related to it posted here.
According to Apple, the new tvOS 26.1 beta has the following build number: 23J5543j
Should you or should you not download the update is entirely your decision. I will recommend staying away from it for at least a couple of betas until it becomes more stable.
initial beta builds are usually wonky, and it takes around two to three betas until things start to feel stable.
The public beta of tvOS 26.1 should become available to download soon as well. Though Apple hasn’t said anything but 0.1 updates always get a public beta after at least three developer betas.
Public betas are easy to sign up for as well, and usually more tolerable since the onboarding process is very, very easy. All you have to do is sign up for Apple’s Beta Software Program website with your Apple account, nothing else.
If you’re interested in signing up for the public beta ahead of time, you’ll find all the details posted here. Once the update becomes available, you can download it like any other software update for your Apple TV.
