The iPhone Air is now official, and is the thinnest iPhone to date. Here are the features, price, and release date details.
Apple Announces iPhone 17 Air with Super-Thin Design, Single 48MP Camera, A19 Pro Chip, and More
First of all, the name. Apple is not calling it ‘iPhone 17 Air.’ Instead, it’s just iPhone Air, and it is being dubbed as the newest member of the iPhone family, according to Tim Cook.
It is just 5.6mm thin, which is very thin, to be honest. And, it is made from grade-5 titanium, making it extremely durable, light, and comfortable to hold in the hand.
With its 6.5-inch Super Retina XDR display, the iPhone Air is designed to be looked at. Apple is making sure it’s appealing to users with the inclusion of ProMotion, a feature which was previously available on the iPhone Pro lineup.
That display also features Ceramic Shield 2, bringing 3x better scratch resistance to the display while also improving anti-reflection performance. On the back, there’s Ceramic Shield as well for enhanced durability.
Powered by the A19 Pro, it is dubbed the fastest chip in any smartphone. Apple went on to say that it offers MacBook Pro levels of performance. Not sure if we need that, but it is definitely welcome.
With its single 48-megapixel Fusion camera at the back, this is by far the best camera on an iPhone in such a thin and light design. I will talk about this camera in detail in a separate post.
There is a new 18-megapixel Center Stage camera on the iPhone Air. No matter which orientation you hold the iPhone in, it will keep you straight, in focus, and leveled.
Apple is also bringing a new Dual Capture mode to iPhone Air, allowing users to record using the front and back camera at the same time.
Apple is taking a leap forward with its custom chips in this iPhone. There’s a new wireless N1 chip, which offers Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread support. While the new C1X modem offers better efficiency in the iPhone Air and offers two times better performance than C1.
Despite being so thin, Apple did all it can to fit a bigger battery inside it and claims all-day battery life. The iPhone does not include a SIM card tray in any model, just to make sure it has a bigger battery inside.
