After spending a few days with Shakkei on my Mac, I’m a true believer in animated wallpapers to create a mindful ambience.

Make Work and Consuming Content Exciting With Shakkei’s Beautiful Animated Wallpapers and ASMR Soundtracks for the Mac

I can easily sum up Shakkei by saying that it is just an animated wallpaper app, nothing more. But that would be the laziest thing I could do.

Instead of doing that, I set myself up for the app, exactly how the developer intended.

The first time I downloaded Shakkei, I was planning on working from a coffee shop, just for a change of ambience, a thing I do very often every other day. But I decided against it, and thought what if Shakkei served as a change of environment for me instead?

After all, that is what the app is about.

So, I set up the app, selected the Vanlife Escape animated backdrop, kept the audio enabled with my AirPods on, clicked on Activate Scene, and three hours passed by without me realizing it.

It works, and it kept me in my chair.

Super Easy Setup and to the Point

And the fact that it’s so easy to set up and use is exactly what makes this app great. You install it, click on the icon in the menu bar, select the wallpaper, choose whether you want it to be animated, select if you want to hear a calming soundtrack with it, and then click Activate Scene.

You get up to nine animated wallpapers to choose from: Vanlife Escape, Icelandic Falls, Zen Pavilion, Nordic Snow Globe, Tuscan Vista, Valley Express, Alpine Retreat, Aegean Dreams, and Woodland Camp.

And the app’s interface is very easy to navigate. Rather than adhering to the modern macOS design, it feels classic, and yet very fitting in modern times.

The audio that accompanies these wallpapers is so well made. It’s pure ASMR, and has a relaxing quality to it which I wasn’t expecting at all. If you keep the audio track disabled, you’re missing out on almost 70% of the app.

The wallpapers are exceptionally well made and animated. Everything is subtle, ensuring peace, mindfulness, and the coziest work environment right in the vicinity of your favorite sitting spot.

Pricing and Trial

Now, the app does come with a trial with just one animated wallpaper and sound which you can use indefinitely. But, once you pay for a license, everything is unlocked, and you get access to 9 wallpapers. A personal license will set you back $12, while the family one will cost you $24.

Will I recommend getting it? A 100%. I went into testing this app as a non-believer, and I never ever set myself up for an app. But today, I write this with confidence that Shakkei will change the way you work and consume content.
