Apple may finally bring true reverse wireless charging to the iPhone lineup with the release of iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max.
iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max Getting Proper Reverse Wireless Charging (Maybe)
Leaker Fixed Focus Digital on Weibo says that Apple is testing reverse wireless charging for iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max. This means users will be able to charge their AirPods and Apple Watch just by placing them on the back of their iPhone.
Depending on the reliability of the feature, only then will Apple release it for everyone.
This leak comes and goes like the seasons and we end up getting nothing whenever a new iPhone is released. But who knows Apple might finally deliver on proper reverse wireless charging this year.
In case you don’t know, iPhones going all the way back to iPhone 12 actually do support reverse wireless charging. But it’s limited to just charging the official MagSafe Battery Pack, an accessory which has been discontinued by Apple in 2023.
The way it works is simple. You attach the MagSafe Battery Pack to your iPhone, and connect the charging cable to your iPhone, instead of the battery pack. If your pack’s battery is low, the iPhone will wirelessly charge the MagSafe Battery Pack.
