AirPods are set to get a handful of new features this year, and ahead of Apple’s WWDC 2025, they have been leaked too.

AirPods is Getting a Bunch of Great New Features at WWDC 2025, Including the Ability to Pause Playback when the User Falls Asleep

We tend to forget that AirPods get a software update every year too, that adds a bunch of great new features. Today, 9to5Mac has spilled the beans on what Apple is going to announce on Monday, and the list is simply fantastic.

I’ll dive right into what’s coming and keep it as concise as possible.

First and foremost, users will be able to use head gestures such as a nod to end Conversation Awareness. Currently, if you want to end it abruptly, you have to press on the AirPods stem.

Conversation Awareness is a feature in AirPods Pro that lowers the volume of the content playing and enables Transparency mode whenever you talk to someone.

Next up is auto-pause when you sleep. This is a big one for me, because I tend to sleep wearing my AirPods with a podcast playing. With auto-pause, when the AirPods detect that the user has fallen asleep, it will automatically pause whatever’s playing. Genius.

The report says that users will be able to press the stem of their AirPods in order to take a photo using the iPhone or iPad camera. Basically, it will turn the AirPods into a wireless shutter button.

Another feature coming to AirPods is the ability to record audio in ‘studio quality.’ I’m not sure how the AirPods are going to handle that much bandwidth and which devices will be supported. But if this feature is coming, it’s going to be a blessing for those who don’t want to invest in expensive mics in order to record something.

But, don’t throw away your favorite mic just yet. Let Apple announce this one officially first.

Last but not least, Apple is working on the ability to connect multiple AirPods to a single device far more easily, which will come in handy in a classroom-like situation in which several students might want to listen in on something using their AirPods.

I really, really want that auto-pause feature on my AirPods, of all things reported above. We will know for sure on Monday what Apple will announce at WWDC 2025.
