Going against all previous report, new information says the base model iPhone 17 will feature the A18 chip and 8GB of RAM.
New Information Says Apple is Going to Ship Base iPhone 17 with A18 Chip from iPhone 16 and Just 8GB of RAM, Not 12GB
The iPhone 17 lineup of smartphones is set for launch later this year, and the latest information out of the camp paints a rather strange picture of the base model smartphone.
Previously, it was believed that the standard iPhone 17 smartphone will ship with the latest A19 chip and, of course, 12GB of RAM. The latter has been up for debate for a while, but the general consensus is that Apple will ship its phones with more RAM compared to the iPhone 16 lineup.
However, analyst Jeff Pu (via MacRumors) has chimed in with an interesting bit of information which throws pretty much all we know about the base iPhone 17 out the window.
First of all, the base iPhone 17 model, the cheapest in the lineup, will ship with the A18 chip. The same chip which can be found in the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus.
Secondly, the entire iPhone 17 lineup was believed to ship with 12GB of RAM, but Jeff Pu says Apple is going to ship the base model with just 8GB of RAM. Though Apple never advertises the amount of RAM in the iPhone on its website, but those who do find this information will start to care.
While this does paint a bad picture for the iPhone 17, it will still be a better phone than iPhone 16 in several ways. For example, the display is rumored to go from 6.1 inches to 6.3 inches – a huge step up even though it seems just a little.
Not only that, there are reports suggesting that the iPhone 17 might feature a 120Hz display as well, something which the iPhone 16 completely lacks.
