A new report says Apple is going to launch a dedicated app for gaming with iOS 19 and macOS 16 next month at WWDC 2025.
iOS 19 and macOS 16 to Feature Dedicated App for Gaming, Will Work with Games Downloaded Outside of App Store too
Back in October, a report said Apple was going to launch a dedicated ‘game store’ with iOS 19, which is going to be a combination of Game Center and App Store.
Today, Bloomberg has jumped in and is reporting the same thing.
The report said that this dedicated app for gaming will be available on iOS 19 later this year. However, it will be available on the Mac too.
The interesting thing here is how this app will even work with games that aren’t downloaded from the App Store.
While this is definitely great news, but I am not sure how much effective it is going to be.
My point is, the App Store makes things extremely convenient if you want to download something. The moment you launch it, you see tabs for apps, gaming, and other stuff front and center.
Breaking things into two might just move focus away completely from gaming.
I’m sure Apple has something up its sleeve to make this as interesting as possible. We just have a few more days to go and all will be revealed at WWDC 2025.
