A new Mac app, called RemoveMacAI, disables Apple Intelligence on macOS 27 Golden Gate and free up to 12GB of storage space.
RemoveMacAI Lets You Disable Apple Intelligence and Free up to 12GB of Storage Space on Your Mac Running macOS 27 Golden Gate
There are a couple of harsh truths about macOS 27 a lot of people don’t know. The first one is, you can’t disable Apple Intelligence, unlike before, and it’s enabled by default. Secondly, Apple Intelligence can occupy up to 12GB storage space, and there’s no way to reclaim it.
However, there’s a new Mac app making the rounds around the internet called RemoveMacAI, that claims to do things which Apple doesn’t allow: disable Apple Intelligence and free up space as well. Plain and simple.
The thing is, even if you disable Apple Intelligence somehow, the AI models will keep on taking space on your local drive, and there’s nothing you can do about it. That’s what makes the RemoveMacAI app important, because it does all the legwork for you, and ensures that Apple Intelligence does not re-enable itself, or download the models on your Mac’s drive again.
If you do not care about Apple Intelligence at all, and every single megabyte of data is dear to you, then you can give the app a shot over at GitHub.
As someone who relies on the convenience of Apple Intelligence in many places, especially Siri AI, I don’t see any reason why anyone would want to disable it completely. But when it comes to storage space, especially if you have an older Mac with 128GB of base storage, then it makes perfect sense.
