The moment you start to spec out the new MacBook Pro with OLED display, the price goes through the roof real fast.

A Maxed Out MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display Costs Up to $14,549

I’m sure you’re completely taken over by the new MacBook Pro’s OLED display and glowing Apple logo. But in all the noise, we forgot that the new notebooks are really expensive, too.

The cheapest model, with the 14-inch OLED display and M5 Pro chip, starts at $2,899, which is $400 more than the one with a Liquid Retina XDR display and M5 Pro. However, things start to get expensive the moment you start adding stuff to it.

The moment you decide that you need that faster M5 Max chip, the price jumps to $4,499 immediately. Want a larger 16-inch OLED display instead? That’ll be $4,799.

I haven’t even talked about memory upgrades, because they cost a fortune, and mostly require you to upgrade to the M5 Max chip, especially if you want more RAM. Once you do that, 128GB of RAM will cost $2,000 extra, whereas a 16TB SSD upgrade costs $7,000 extra.

I’ll max out the 16-inch model, list down its specs and price below:

  • 16-inch MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display
  • Nano-texture glass
  • M5 Max chip with 18-core CPU, 40-core GPU
  • 128GB RAM
  • 16TB SSD

The total cost of the above model comes to $14,549 before taxes. And, the funny thing is, the 14-inch model costs $14,249 with the same specs. If you’re spending all that money anyway, why not just upgrade to a larger display, right?

You might think that I’m against the price of the new MacBook Pro. However, at base price, you actually get a lot of laptop.

Take the 14-inch model as a great example, because it comes with 24GB of RAM as standard, and it includes a 1TB SSD as well. The 70W power adapter is also included in this price. And don’t forget you get that beautiful 14-inch (tandem OLED) PROLED XDR Display with Touch capabilities, and the Dynamic Island.
