The new MacBook Pro, featuring Apple’s new PROLED XDR display with touchscreen capabilities, is now official.

Apple Announces New MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and Touch Capabilities Powered by M5 Pro and M5 Max

This week has been awesome so far. Apple announced the OLED iPad mini on Monday, the iMac and MacBook Pro powered by M6 on Tuesday, and today, an all-new MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR display.

But it’s not just the OLED display that’s new here; there are plenty of other things too, so we’ll start with the obvious things and make our way into the smaller details.

PROLED XDR Display

The new MacBook Pro features a tandem OLED display, which Apple is calling the PROLED XDR Display. It has a peak brightness of 2000 nits, a 10 million to 1 contrast ratio, P3 + Adobe RGB wide color, True Tone, and ProMotion 120Hz.

Apart from that, it is a full touchscreen display with support for multi-touch, including scroll, pinch, rotate, draw, and more.

Apple says that this is the world’s best display in a pro laptop. Given how good Apple has been with displays so far, I’m not going to contest this in any way, except to leave it to experts to verify this claim.

This screen is perfect for outdoor use as well, since it supports a peak brightness of 2000 nits in SDR mode as well.

Dynamic Island

The notch is history on the new MacBook Pro and has been replaced by the Dynamic Island, which we are familiar with on the iPhone. It is the home to Spotlight, Live Activities, Siri AI, and more.

Thinner, Lighter, and Improved Design

There are two models of the new MacBook Pro – 14-inch and 16-inch. The 14-inch model weighs 3 pounds while the 16-inch model weighs 4 pounds.

If you want some comparison point, the 14-inch model is 0.5 pounds lighter than the previous model, while the 16-inch model is 0.7 pounds lighter. While that might not sound like much, if you carry your notebook in a bag all the time, it makes a night-and-day difference.

Since the display border is slimmer, Apple says the 16-inch model actually has a 16.3-inch area in total, which is more than the previous model. The 14-inch model keeps things nice and easy at 14.2 inches, same as before.

Apple says the new MacBook Pro has a redesigned thermal architecture, allowing the notebook to maintain its performance under heavy workloads. This hasn’t been the case in the past, as laptops usually fumble the moment things start to get thin, literally.

Powered by M5 Pro and M5 Max

The new 14-inch and 16-inch models come with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips for epic performance. These chips have proven themselves to be ultra-fast in day-to-day tasks, especially on-device AI tasks. So it’s great to see them here as well, and Apple isn’t cutting corners to make everything fit in a thin and light enclosure.

Improved Speaker System

MacBook Pro has always had great speakers to begin with, and the new model features an all-new woofer design that delivers 50% more bass. Since it’s a six-speaker setup, expect your audio to be room-filling with Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos handling all your surround sound needs.

Brilliant Connectivity and Ports

The new MacBook Pro ships with Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, Thunderbolt 5 ports, SDXC card slot, MagSafe, headphone jack, and of course, HDMI.

Battery Life

Apple promises up to 24 hours of battery life on the new MacBook Pro, and fast charging allows you to go from zero to 50% in just 30 minutes.

The Glowing Apple Logo is Back

Last but not least, the moment you press that power button or open the lid, the Apple logo lights up, just like old times. Now, Apple, do it again, but this time on other MacBook models, especially the MacBook Air.

Pricing and Availability

The new MacBook Pro does not come cheap, but given the kind of features it delivers, it’s not surprising that it costs this much.

You can pre-order the new MacBook Pro today, and it will be available in 30 countries and regions on November 6th.

The 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 Pro starts at $2,899 while the 16-inch model with M5 Pro starts at $3,399. If you configure it with M5 Max, the 14-inch model starts at $4,499, while the 16-inch model will set you back $4,799.

Both notebooks will be available in silver and space black colors.
