Rising Memory Cost Eating into Apple’s Lunch, Price Increase of Consumer Products Definitely Happening, Confirms CEO Tim Cook
There’s a huge demand for memory products from AI companies, and for that reason, things like storage and RAM is becoming increasingly expensive, not just for businesses, but consumers as well.
Apple is not invincible to these price increases, and Apple CEO Tim Cook has confirmed that the company has no choice left but to increase the price of its products in the future.
Tim Cook told The Wall Street Journal that Apple has been absorbing the cost of the memory price increase for quite a while, and that model is no longer sustainable. It only makes sense that Apple products will see increased price in the future.
Tim Cook did not say which products will be affected the most, so I’m not even going to speculate on that end either.
A while back, Apple stopped selling the 256GB version of the M4 Mac mini, and there’s a rumor that it may do the same for the MacBook Neo as well. If that’s the case, then it’s not quite a price increase, and you’re just starting from the next tier of memory.
But only time will make things clear here how this is going to pan out. If it’s a real price increase while keeping base storage options in tact, then potential buyers should brace for impact.
