The cheaper Vision headset is taking a backseat so that Apple can get its AI smart glasses out the door sooner.

Apple Wants to Get its AI Smart Glasses Out the Door Sooner, Stops Work on Vision Air Headset to Get it Done

The Vision Pro is fantastic, and there’s nothing quite like it. It truly is a product that’s ahead of its time, and that is the thing that’s holding it back too.

See, the thing is, a face computer is a tough sell at this point in time, especially when devices like iPhone, iPad, and Mac are deeply rooted in our daily lives. Even Apple can’t replace what it has created, and it will be a while until that starts to happen.

However, there’s a huge Apple smart glasses shaped void that needs filling. And it’s something a lot of people are looking forward to as well.

Smart glasses have gotten really popular over the years, mostly thanks to Meta. And with the Meta Ray-Ban Display Glasses with Neural Band now a reality, and not just a super-expensive prototype for show, Apple should be worried.

And it is definitely worried.

When I heard the news that Apple has stopped work on the cheaper Vision headset in order to get its AI smart glasses out the door earlier, it’s the right call. This is the sort of thing that will benefit the company and the consumer at the same time.

While the Vision Pro is an ambitious move forward, there’s no point in working on something so actively that may not yield great results in the short term.

Smart glasses, on the other hand, don’t just make a fashion statement, but ensure portability and usefulness no matter where you are, across a wide spectrum of audiences.

And the ability to get help from a smart assistant without pulling out your iPhone is always going to be welcomed by everyone out there.

The only problem is, Apple is still way behind Meta when it comes to technology and a final product. The report from Bloomberg says that Apple is going to announce these smart glasses next year, and they will be ready for launch in 2027.

That’s a long wait, and during that time Meta will definitely be able to convince users to hop on board its AI platform and glasses.

But, I believe Apple made the right call putting its cheaper Vision headset in the backseat in favor of its smart glasses. Smart glasses are the kind of product people will buy, and definitely not a headset that may start at $1,999.
