Apple said it didn’t want to create a chatbot, but if the latest report is anything to go by, looks like Apple is definitely making one.

Apple is Putting Together a New ‘Answers, Knowledge, and Information’ Team to Create a ChatGPT-like Search Experience for Users

The approach which Apple is taking with AI is interesting. Initially, the company said it didn’t want to do a chatbot, but given their popularity from competition such as ChatGPT, Apple is changing its plans.

According to a new report by Bloomberg, Apple is creating a new ‘Answers, Knowledge, and Information’ team, with a bunch of job openings related to it already live in the United States and China.

The goal of this team is to create a ChatGPT-like search experience in which users will be able to ask questions and get answers or solutions in return.

Call it ‘search’ or whatever, it’s a chatbot.

How Apple aims to achieve this remains to be seen. With Tim Cook saying the company is willing to make good investment in AI, in-house efforts progressing nicely, and several potential partnerships in the pipeline, Apple can definitely pull this off.

The new team will be led by former Siri executive Robby Walker, and given its super early days, it will be a while until we see something concrete from the team on the consumer front.

It’s safe to assume we won’t see any of this on iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS 26. But if Apple doesn’t fumble along the way, we might see this chatbot-like experience with iOS 27 next year.

At this point, I don’t want Apple to rush it one bit. I want Apple’s chatbot to have the finesse its software usually has.
