A new report sheds light on the iPhone 17 Pro features and says that it will feature an 8x optical zoom lens and another Camera Control.
iPhone 17 Pro Getting Big Camera Upgrades, Including 8x Optical Zoom, Pro Camera App, and a New Camera Control Button
The report comes from MacRumors, and they say that the iPhone 17 Pro will introduce three new camera-related upgrades, with one of them being an 8x telephoto lens. That’s a huge upgrade over the 5x one Apple currently ships with iPhone 16 Pro.
But the interesting thing here is, this lens will be able to move, allowing users to choose multiple focal lengths from a single camera, like a real zoom lens on something like a mirrorless camera.
Another thing that has me interested is the new pro camera app, but the report doesn’t say whether the app will be limited to the iPhone 17 Pro model or will come to other iPhone 17 models as well.
But given how Apple works, it would prefer to keep the app exclusive to the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max. That’s just speculation, and we’ll know for sure in the coming weeks and months.
However, the report does add that this ‘pro camera app’ might just be an upgrade to the existing Final Cut Camera application for iPhone.
Last but not least, Apple is apparently adding another Camera Control button to iPhone, as if one wasn’t enough at this point.
The new button is said to live on the ‘top edge’ of the smartphone, allowing users to go through additional camera settings. I’m really not sure how this is going to be useful since we don’t have enough information regarding the smartphone just yet.
While these do look like wild changes coming to the iPhone 17 Pro, if you pick up an old report on how Apple wants to replace your current camera with the iPhone, then it all starts to make sense.
