Though this method is super easy, you still need to follow the pre-installation checklist, which includes signing up for the Apple Developer Program, checking device compatibility, enabling iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 beta updates for your device, etc.
Check if Your Device is Compatible with iOS 26 or iPadOS 26
You can only install the update over the air if your iPhone and iPad is compatible with iOS 26 and iPadOS 26. You will find the official list posted here.
Sign up to the Apple Developer Program
You need to sign up to Apple’s Developer Program in order to get access to iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 beta. It is free if you just want to test out the new beta, and you can sign up for it with your Apple Account by going here.
Enable iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 Beta Updates on iPhone and iPad
This step isn’t necessary if you’re performing a clean installation. However, in order to start receiving iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 beta updates over the air, this is what you have to do:
- Launch the Settings app.
- Go to General > Software Update.
- Tap on Beta Updates at the top.
- Select iOS 26/iPadOS 26 Developer Beta.

Download iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 Beta 1 Over the Air
Step 1. Connect your iPhone and iPad to Wi-Fi.
Step 2. Launch the Settings app.
Step 3. Find General and open it.
Step 4. Tap on Software Update at the top.
Step 5. Give it a few seconds and the iOS 26 or iPadOS 26 beta 1 update will show right up. Tap on Update Now underneath to begin the download.
Your device will restart in order to complete the installation, and then you can start using the first developer beta of iOS 26 and iPadOS 26.
