As wild it may sound, a new report says that Apple is going to allow users in the EU to switch away from Siri for some other assistant.

Apple is Going to Allow iPhone Users in the EU to Change their Default Voice Assistant Siri to Something Else

Apple does not allow users to use any other voice assistant other than Siri. Sure, you can download a third-party app and use the assistant inside that app, but that’s as far as things go.

However, according to a new report published by Bloomberg, Apple is about to do the unthinkable.

In the EU, Apple is going to follow regulations and allow users to switch away from Siri in favor of some other assistant if needed. This means users will be able to use Gemini as their assistant, or maybe even Alexa.

Apple already allows users to replace stock apps with third-party ones in the EU therefore allowing users to replace the voice assistant too doesn’t come as a surprises.

But, it remains to be seen how the whole thing will actually work. Will saying ‘Alexa’ bring up some sort of animation like Siri, or will it just launch the Alexa app?

I honestly have a ton of questions about this, because Siri is tied into a ton of stuff on the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. For example, you can use it to create Calendar entries. Will the third-party assistant have this much access? Isn’t that a privacy nightmare?

It remains to be seen when this change will actually roll out. Given that we are hearing about it, there’s a chance it might happen this year with the release of iOS 19, iPadOS 19, and macOS 16.

A recent report also said that Apple is working to bring Gemini support to Apple Intelligence as well, apart from ChatGPT.
